French Press Brew Guide
The French Press or Cafetière patented by Attilio Calimani and Giulio Moneta in 1929, is still the most common method of brewing fresh coffee at home. It is a fantastic way to brew coffee since it is a fully immersed brew that retains plenty of body in the coffee. Want to have a go yourself? What do you need to brew coffee with a French Press?
To brew coffee with a French Press you are going to need the following items:
- French Press
- Coarse Ground Coffee
- Pouring Kettle
- Scales/Measuring Spoon
- Timer
- Stirrer
Step by step French Press brew guide:
- Boil your kettle and let it rest for a minute or two until the water temperature drops to around 90°c.
- Add your coarse ground coffee from Clements & Hope into your french press. You will need roughly one tablespoon for each cup or 16g if using the scales.
- Add in your boiled water. To begin with add around double the amount of water to your coffee, so for 32g coffee pour over approximately 64ml water.
- Stir slowly and allow to rest for 30 - 45 seconds.
- Pour over the remaining hot water (we use a ratio of 1:12 so if you have 32g of coffee you will need 360ml water). Pop the lid on but... DO NOT PLUNGE!
- Set your timer and leave the coffee for around four minutes.
- After four minutes slowly push down the press. When the plunger is all the way down serve straight away.
